I recently received my copy of this great project, one that must be in every aviators library. The Boeing 727 was one of the great flight artifacts that formed the backbone of great aviation companies for a long time, and this excellent work has resonated it like no other. Rich & detailed in information, technical aspects and images. Also the format of having conformed it in several volumes is a plus, thus producing the most complete work on this legendary aircraft.

More than books, the realization of a dream...

By profession, in my youth I was a radio broadcaster (another passion) and, later, I became a Lawyer and Corporate Consultant, working in Brazil, the United States, China and Hong Kong. I spend a lot of time flying. I did not become a pilot, but I have had a passion for airplanes since my childhood, when I had the opportunity to visit Congonhas Airport many times, in the middle of the largest city in Latin America, São Paulo, which at that time, was a territory dominated by the Boeing 727, the most used aircraft in Brazil in the first part of the 1980s.

My path was the same followed by the majority of young people who fall in love with airplanes: first, the Plastic Modeling, assembling several kits, among them a Boeing 727 in 1/144 scale from Transbrasil, just like the ones I saw in São Paulo. This hobby evolved into a collection of more than 2,700 airplane kits of all types, which remains my hobby and permanent connection to aviation.

In 1998, I let my love for the Boeing 727 flow in the creation of the '727 Datacenter' website, which despite being only in Portuguese, my native language, became very well known in the world and will get a new version in 2022. However, mine Professional and corporate life, which makes me travel a lot, delayed for decades the desire to write a book about the Boeing 727.

First, I wrote books on Law, as an author and co-author, in the early 2000s, but only after the stop caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which prevented me from traveling internationally, I had free time to complete the project of a Boeing 727 book, despite working from home-office.

I gathered up the material I had collected from forty years of love for this plane and ran into an unexpected problem: the rich story of the Boeing 727 could not be adequately told in just 100, 200, or even 300 pages.

Thus was born the idea of generating the work in two volumes, with an average of 370 pages each. But, when wanting to detail each of the 1,832 trijets built, with their technical data, images and operational life, which involves several transfers between companies for a large part of the jets, the need arose to create a page for each plane and... 4 other volumes for the collection, which became, definitively, the Encyclopedia 727, which will have, when complete, 2,640 pages.

All books have digital content with access via QR code and the sections will receive updates on the data of the aircraft in operation, which can be downloaded in PDF and printed, keeping your Encyclopedia 727 updated.

In volume 1 you will learn about the scenario in which the 727 was conceived, behind the scenes at Boeing before the decision to build this jet (the famous $1 billion battle), the designs, prototypes and tests through to final certification and its history of success, including Boeing's successful sales strategy, which brought the model to a record 1,832 units sold. Volume 1 also brings the main 727 operators in the world, by continents and a special section on aircraft operated in Brazil, with the history of the companies that flew the model and each of the trijets operated from 1970 to 2021. Volume 1 has 360 pages and is now available worldwide in English and Portuguese. For Brazil, you can buy at Clube de Autores and for all the other countries, at Amazon.com. There are two versions, you can buy paperback or hardcover.

Volume 2 has the details of each variant of the factory Boeing 727 and the modifications received to extend its operational life, testimonials from pilots and other professionals about the trijet, the most unusual stories that happened with the model, an account of all accidents involving the device and more: the 727 in the media, flight simulators, statistics, preserved planes, as well as the production list and a complete chronology of the model's history. Finally, a section dedicated to Plastic Modelers and Collectors, with the 727 in scale. Volume 2 has 375 pages, in printed books or  electronic format. For Brazil, you can buy at Clube de Autores and for all the other countries, at Amazon.com. There are two versions, you can buy paperback or hardcover.

Volumes 3 to 6 will have 476 pages each, containing the individual history of each Boeing 727 built, including the basic details of each cell and the movements between companies, with the destination of each of the three jets up to the present day and more than 900 full-color illustrations of all planes in their almost 60-year history. Volume 3 was released on December 2022 (already available worldwide in English and Portuguese) and the Volumes 4 to 6 will be available in 2024.

Interestingly enough, in a world so full of books on a topic as popular as aviation, this is the first time an aircraft has won an entire, multi-volume encyclopedia. Accomplishing something unprecedented was not in my plans. My desire has always been (and will be) to tell the story of the Boeing 727 in the most complete and rich way possible. This aircraft model, despite its importance, has always had few titles, eclipsed by the most famous brothers, the Boeing 707, 737 and 747.

The work of finishing 6 volumes independently is not easy, but I'm still firm. I created the text, edited it, made more than 4,200 photorealistic profiles of all the planes (up to December 2022), all personally, in my own notebook. Now that activities are returning to normal, my travels must start again, but Encyclopedia 727 is already a reality that I am proud of, a work that I will leave as a tribute not only to the plane, but to those who worked to take it off the drawing boards, in in particular the legendary Jack Steiner, as well as the men and women who operated on him through his long life of nearly six decades and still not over. Even today, in Brazil or in the United States, several trijets fly daily and will certainly do so for a few more years..

Long live the Boeing 727!
